Starting January 16, foreign residents in Taichung with APRC are eligible for the Taichung Double Ten Bus Discount.

To create a more welcoming environment for foreign residents in Taichung, Mayor Lu Shiow-yen has presented a special New Year gift. Foreign nationals who hold “Alien Permanent Resident Certificates (APRC)” and have a registered address in Taichung are now eligible to apply for the citizen-only benefits of the Double Ten Bus Discount.

According to Director-general of Transportation Bureau Dr. Yeh Chao-fu, starting January 16, eligible applicants need to fill out an application form and bring their “Alien Permanent Resident Certificate” and “electronic ticket card” (EasyCard, iPASS, or icash) to any of the 107 designated locations citywide to activate the card.

Mayor Lu cares about the convenience of public transportation for residents and has taken concrete actions to encourage bus use. Since 2021, Taichung has implemented a citizen-only Double Ten Bus fare discount, offering benefits to Taichung residents. With a bound citizen-only electronic ticket card, they can enjoy the Double Ten Bus Discount, which includes free rides for the first 10 kilometers and a maximum fare of NT$10 for distances over 10 kilometers. Since the policy's implementation in 2021, 1.83 million citizens have applied, leading to increased use of public transportation, reduced pollution, and alleviated parking issues.

"Welcome international friends to live in Taichung!" Director-general Dr. Yeh stated that international friends with “Alien Permanent Resident Certificates” and a registered address in Taichung City must bring their APRC and an “electronic ticket card (EasyCard, iPASS, or icash)” to any of the 107 locations, including the Taichung City Hall, the Transportation Bureau, district offices, household registration offices, MRT Green Line stations, and municipal library, to bind their electronic ticket card for the Double Ten Bus Discount.
